Job Offers: Squaring the Circle... - Riggers - 2006-04-28 23:29:28

I'm currently in the situation of having had my qualifications validated by the NZQA, so I can submit a 'skilled migrant' application IF I can support it with a job offer. However, potential employers are likely to be put off by the absence of approval to work in NZ. While I'm encouraged by the apparent number of vacancies for my role, (business analyst), it still seems a difficult road ahead.
Has anyone any experience or guidance on this?

web development volunteer work experience opportunity - mediamind - 2006-10-02 23:37:09

Securing paid employment is often very difficult for new migrants in New Zealand because it can be very difficult even getting an interview without New Zealand work experience on your resume, regardless of overseas experience.

Consider volunteer work experience using your skills in development of web sites for charities.

We use charity projects as an effective way of training volunteers and evaluating their strengths for progression to paid contracting work in commercial projects.

Does this opportunity interest you?

If so, do you consider your strengths to be creative, functional or both?

Project management skills also a plus.

Are you able to send us a current resume and share some examples of your previous work? (design or functional related)

I look forward to hearing from you and assisting any way that I can.

Kind Regards

Steve Julian

How do you evaluate UK salary to equivalent NZ salary? - colfreeland - 2007-01-09 11:48:45

I've been trying to generate an expected -equivalent NZ salary from that in UK...Will try and explain further; assume jobs are the same (like for like);
UK Salary £30k, with benefits of Life Assurance, Health Care, Non-Contributary Pension (say 6% of gross) what would be the expected equivalent salary in NZ?

Taking into account Cost of Living (which appears much the same as in UK) and Taxation.

Hope this make sense to someone!! The figures are fiction, but the principle remains. I have been offered a job in NZ, but finding it difficult to evaluate offer against current earnings etc.

Any advice/experience would be greatly apprecaited, Thanks
