Hi Im new to the site and wondered if anyone could help.My family and I are considering moving to New Zealand.If we do my husband will be enlisting into the NZDF and we have been told that we will be based at either Linton Camp on the North isalnd or Burnham Camp on the South island. We were just wondering about local ammenities in these areas,ie,food shopping,buying electrical items,furnishings etc.We also have 2 small children 4 & 5 years old so we were wondering what is around to keep them happy,ie,clubs,after school activities.We are also considering leaving all of our things behind and coming with our suitcases.If anyone has any advice or help with any of these it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there, and welcome to the site.

Moving to the North or South is a fairly big decision however the lucky thing is that amenities etc are all readily available in both islands. The North is generally larger with the majority of the population, however some people prefer the South Island for that very reason. You should have no problem finding activies for the kids and even in the remote areas there are generally great community groups run through the local schools etc. Perhaps some of our other members could give their experience...stay tuned.
